SPH Media Club Workshop

Hi all.

You can't believe it. I finally stepped foot into the Singapore Press Holdings' buildings. The building was about 7 storeys high and the surroundings were all roads and just a few buildings and just buildings, or some HDB residential flats around. But it was truly one amazing and spectacular experience, for I get to see the 'inside' of the building and best of all, an insight into the place where journalists, photojournalists and whosoever working in the News Centre, and the settings and all. The building was nicely furnished, air conditioned, no doubt. And I should say it was just, extravagant.

So we headed to the auditoium for the workshop on how to pose questions during an interview with a celebrity, sportsmen, or just the normal citizens who help create news in the papers all day round. News makers, the people in the journalism sector would call it. We were then given a short talk on the 'do(s)' and 'don't(s)' in an interview, some useful tips and advices that we can apply when interviewing people and to ask thought-provoking questions.

One of the tips I like best is this.

After having asked a question, keep quiet and let your news making talk. Don't interrupt. Let the people being interviewd USE THEIR OWN WORDS to speak so as to get BETTER QUOTES.

Great one.

And to make today's session look like the 'real' thing, in fact, it IS real but in an informal way, SPH invited Aide Iskandar, the captain of the Lions team as the special guest. We got to ask him questions regarding his soccer career and all. The feeling was like WoW! Heehee, although I have only heard of Mr Aide Iskandar today, he sure created a good impression in me. I wasn't paying close attention to te interview session, except during the time when I, myself asked him 2 questions. It is such a pity that I didn't bring along my camera with me today. Else, I could have taken some photo shots of him and yes, the ASEAN cup trophy that the Lions team won through many hard work and rigorous training 2 weeks back.

And man, the cup was HUGE! We were not allowed to lift a finger let alone touch the trophy. Well, I guess it serves as a form of respect for the Lions. And only members from the Lions are permitted to touch the trophy, when they won the cup...

There is no other day better than today. I mean the invaluable experience and skills I acquire.

Till here then.
